Road & Transportation Facility Experience
Our goal on all projects is to provide timely, precise utility location
information as part of an overall effort to ensure constructability and
control costs. We are sensitive to the fact that utility records may be
misleading and incomplete, because of this we stand by our commitment to
provide the most accurate, reliable and clear
utility
location and designations possible through our experience, knowledge
and innovative techniques.
Some of our most recent road & transportation facility projects include:
-
Rt. 603 – Montgomery County, VA
For this road improvement project, Accumark performed Quality Level B Utility Designating Services along Route 603 in Montgomery County. Accumark designated over 44,500 L.F. of underground utilities including: water, gas, sanitary force mains, telephone, fiber-optics, electric, and storm drains. A two-man blind sweep allowed Accumark's field crew to successfully locate a large storm drain which was absent from the survey, due to both ends of the drain being obscured by brush. Without attention to detail and thorough investigations, the field crew would not have picked up this storm drain.
Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) was also used to locate multiple water lines as well as a sanitary force main. Accumark provided traffic control for this project due to poor sight distance and limited visibility.
This work was performed under Accumark's current contract with VDOT for design projects.
-
Rt. 360 – Halifax County, VA
For this project, Accumark performed Quality Level A Utility Locating Services at 22 locations along Route 360 in Halifax County for a bridge improvement project. The 22 test holes were performed on telephone, sewer, and water lines, as well as unknown utilities that were discovered during the designating process.
Accumark's field crews faced a great challenge due to the fact that most of the test holes were to be performed on a non-locatable plastic water main. Because of this, Accumark brought in one of its Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) units to aid in the test hole set-up. The GPR successfully located the water main, allowing the field crew to perform all test holes to the client's satisfaction.
Accumark also provided traffic control which included the use of signs, cones, arrow boards, and Accumark's own Crash Truck.
-
Rt. 6 – Fluvanna County, VA
Accumark performed Quality Level B Utility Designating Services along Route 6 in Fluvanna County. For this road improvement project, Accumark designated over 10,500 L.F. of underground utilities. The utilities designated for this project included electric, telephone, and a very important cross-country fiber-optic line. It was critical for Accumark to identify the utility owners of this fiber-optic line to ensure the protection of it.
Most utilities on this project ran through easements away from the road which caused the field crew to cut through a large amount of brush. This created a challenge for Accumark's field crew, but it was the necessary step that had to be taken so that the job would be completed to the satisfaction of the client.
This work was performed under Accumark's current contract with VDOT for design projects.
